Music composer A. R. Rahman started out his career scoring for jingles, and later debuted in 1992 with Roja. He made his mark as a music composer that cemented his position in the film industry. Ruling the roost for over a decade now, the music composer has won several national and international awards. He is the only Asian to have won two Academy awards in a single year. A man of many talents, Rahman is a songwriter, singer, music producer and will soon venture into direction as well. We all know about his famous compositions from films like Bombay, Jeans and Slumdog Millionaire. On the occasion of his birthday, we list some lesser known compositions from his Tamil movies:
1. Senthamizh Naatu Thamizhachiye
Movie: Vandicholai Chinnrasu (1994)
Sung by Shahul Hameed, this song also proves that Rahman can compose music that have a rural feel to it. This lyrics of this song may seem regressive but the rustic tone of the song brought exquisiteness to this number.
2. Sattendru Nenaindhadu
Movie: Kannathil Muthamittal (2002)
‘Oru Deiva Thanda Poove‘ may have been the more popular number from this album, sweeping several awards. But, Sattendru Nenaindhadu is another gem that blended with the scene in the film. An underrated classic!
3. Venila
Movie: Iruvar (1997)
The tunes in Iruvar represented the musical era of 1950s. Venila was a song based on jazz music and sung by the legendary singer Asha Bhonsle.
4. Thiruppugazh
Movie: Kaaviyathalaivan (2014)
A devotional rendition of sorts, this melodious song was song by the iconic singer, Vani Jayaram. The music of this film reflects the pre-independence era. A. R. Rahman carried-out of a six month research before he began working on its soundtrack. Now we know the secret behind those mind-blowing tunes.
5. Vazhga Vazhga
Movie: Kadhal Virus (2012)
Kadhal Virus is one film with the most underrated soundtracks. Vazhga Vazgha is a gem in this album. S. B. Balasubrahmanyam‘s and A. R. Rahman are always an exceptional combo, and this is one such song that proves it.
