D’ORSAY
Footwear in which either one or both sides of the foot are cut out, revealing the arch. D’Orsays are found both in heels and flats.
Wear it with: Pair your classy D’Orsays with a cheeky show-of-skin bodycon dress.
LOAFERS
A pair of slip-on shoes without laces, buckles or fastens of any kind.
Similar to the loafers are the slip-ons and moccasins.
Wear it with: Amp up the androgyny of this shoe with a pair of classic tailored trousers.
ANKLE STRAP
Shoes with a single strap or multiple straps that wrap around the ankle and can be buckled. If there are straps or ribbons that can be wrapped around multiple times and tied the shoe is called an ankle wrap.
Wear it with: Keep it minimal yet sharp by donning a solid coloured playsuit.
T-STRAP
Shoes that have a vertical strap connecting the front to the instep or ankle strap in a
‘T’ shape.
Wear it with: A perfect way to show off your pins is to start with a mini skirt and end with a pair of T-straps.
KITTEN HEELS
Comfortable heels have a height of 1.7 inches or less, which make them great work wear. The kitten heel gets its name from the fact that it was considered appropriate for younger girls who weren’t ready for stilettos yet.
Wear it with: Go all feminine by throwing on a flirty lace swing dress in blush tones.
PEEP-TOE
Shoes in which the toe box has a cut-out, so that the toes ‘peep’ through.
The peep-toe can appear on any kind of shoe – boots, pumps, stilettos, ballet flats
and more.
Wear it with: Keep it super sexy with a pair of skinny leather-look pants.
SLINGBACK
An open-backed shoe with a strap that crosses behind the heel but does not completely encircle the ankle. Slingback straps can be elastic or buckled, so the length of the strap can be adjusted.
Wear it with: A shirt-dress goes great with a pair of sling-backs for an easy evening out.
BALLET FLATS
When the shoe includes a very low or completely flat heel, a closed toe and low-cut that reveals the front of the foot. These are also known as ballerina flats or dolly flats.
Wear it with: Keep it simple (but not boring) and wear with your shortest shorts.
WEDGES
Shoes in which the heel runs along the length of the foot, from front to back. This results in the heel forming a triangular or wedge shape.
If the wedge heel appears with a platform front the shoe is called a platform wedge.
Wear it with: A pair of boot-cut denims for legs that go on for miles.
MARY JANES
A closed toe, low-cut shoe with a strap horizontally across the bridge of the foot. The shoe was originally worn by children and todays Mary Janes are modelled on that style.
Wear it with: Team it with a flared midi skirt to give your Mary Janes a grown-up air.
