He’s arguably Bollywood’s fittest star and the face of the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon. Before race day, The Juice sat the actor down and got him to spill on his exercise regimen and his style secret, and dish out some advice to marathoners as well.
You’re regarded as a fitness icon. How did your association with the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon (SCMM) begin?
Well, it began 11 years ago; you can say that I’ve been with SCMM since its inception. It’s been a beautiful experience because I’ve seen the marathon grow each year.
Are you a marathoner yourself? If not, what is your preferred form of exercise?
As the ambassador of the marathon, I really don’t go out there and run, as I have to fulfill the other duties as an ambassador, like meeting the press, dignitaries and winners. Running is never part of the itinerary on that day, but it is part of my lifestyle. I run about 10-12 km each day and my preferred form of exercise is a mix of functional training, strength and cardio.
What are some of the mistakes that people make when they work out?
The biggest mistakes people tend to make is look for shortcuts. I think those people who are participating in the marathon need to hydrate themselves and make sure they get their essential carbs before the run.
What do you indulge in on cheat days?
I don’t really indulge in cheat days. Cheat days are for cheaters, and I’m not a cheater
What does your diet comprise of?
I’m more into organic food – I eat a lot of salads, egg white omelets, and fish and jowar or bajra rotis.
What is your personal style statement?
I don’t have a specific style. If you work so that you keep yourself fit, all clothes will look good on you.
What’s your mantra in life?
Make fitness your religion.
